Podcasting

The Blaze with Lizzie and Kat!

I've produced, promoted, edited, and co-hosted this popular podcast since 2014. Using episodes of the original Beverly Hills 90210 as our starting point, we've interviewed over 100 guests from the worlds of comedy, writing, television, and beyond. It's a fun dive into the culture of the 1990s, and how teenage dramas have shaped our lives. Also, the Executive Producer of 90210 sends in his behind-the-scenes stories in a weekly segment called "Chuck's Corner."

Feminist Frequency Radio

In 2022 I joined Feminist Frequency Radio as a regular co-host after having the honor of being a guest on the show a number of times. Along with Anita Sarkeesian, on the podcast we bring dispatches from the pop culture wars and invite listeners in on our entertaining, stimulating, take-no-prisoners conversations about the latest films, games, and TV.

In 2023, I created, hosted, and produced a special limited series for Feminist Frequency Radio. “Machos: Fully Loaded” is a feminist examination of how masculinity is portrayed in media, hosted by myself and A.C. Lamberty.

EP. 198: THE SEDUCTION OF TOXIC MASCULINITY

Anita and new cohost Kat Spada start off the season strong with an episode all about the allure of toxic masculinity onscreen. Special guest Dave Proctor returns to discuss why male characters embodying cisheteronormative values can be so obviously problematic, but often still manage to be attractive and compelling to us a viewers.

EP. 197: NEVER RARELY SOMETIMES ALWAYS

“We finish Women’s History Month and this season of FFR with Eliza Hittman’s critically-acclaimed, profoundly affecting 2020 film, Never Rarely Sometimes Always. Joining us for this emotionally intense discussion is returning special guest, writer and podcaster, Kat Spada.”

EP. 194: THE PIANO

“We’re kicking off a month of episodes dedicated to the work of pioneering female directors, and to get us started, we’ll be talking about Jane Campion’s 1993 Oscar-winning film, The Piano. Writer, raconteur, podcast host, and our special guest, Kat Spada, joins our discussion as we grapple with an undeniable masterpiece of a film that is simultaneously racist and which presents a deeply troubling ‘love’ story built upon coercion.”

FEMINIST FREQUENCY RADIO

EP. 152: PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN

“While Anita remains in parts unknown, Ebony and host Carolyn are joined by special guest Kat Spada to discuss Emerald Fennell’s revenge thriller, Promising Young Woman, a film both darkly comedic and astutely descriptive of rape culture. Join us as we discuss what makes Cassandra Thomas’ quest to punish the ‘Nice Guys’ so provocative.”

TREK/MARRY/KILL

“Death Wish,” Voyager S2E18

“KILL ALL MEN? That’s the tantalizing hook for the latest episode in our Trials of Season Two theme month, and guest co-hosts Kat Spada of Feminist Frequency Radio and artist Ethan Harper can’t help but think what might’ve been.”

“Imposters,” Picard S3E5

“RO LAREN RETURNS and Bryan might still be tingling. Does this week’s special guest co-host, Kat Spada of Feminist Frequency Radio, share his love for Picard’s wayward protege? They also get into Todd Stashwick’s continued excellence as Captain Shaw, talk about the pairing of Michelle Hurd & Michael Dorn, and other famous Star Trek things like wonky ADR and wigs.”

BLESSED PICTURE

BLESSED PICTURE

ep. 15: mank

“We’re talking Mank! Shelby and Skye are joined by Kat Spada (host of the podcast The Blaze with Lizzie and Kat), to break down David Fincher’s newest film and decide if it’s blessed. Shelby poses an important and potentially controversial question. What do we think of Gary Oldman’s performance as the titular Mank? Did we find it more fun to make jokes about Mank than actually watching it? And Kat guesses David Fincher’s The Game for this week’s What the Plot? The good, the bad, and the Mank on this week’s episode.”

*Not live."
